Early Richardsons were mainly carpenters, diversifying later into general buiding.  Later Richardsons  ( NEWMARKET} were shopkeepers.  Lot Richardson was a prominent citizen in Shillington  and probably by virtue of the properties which he owned, was regarded as a member of the gentry and is listed as such in a contemporary street directory. In addition to being a builder Lot also kept  the Marquis of Granby Public House in Shillington
